1.         Longing for the Spring Breeze — Taiwanese ballad
Performer: HCTMG Orchestra  Erhu solo by Swee Koh

Written in 1933 by lyricist Li Lin-chiu and composer Teng Yu-hsien, Longing for the Spring Breeze is generally acknowledged as Taiwan's unofficial national anthem. It represents memories of childhood, of love lost and of a local identity, all expressed in Holo, a dialect spoken by about 70 percent of Taiwan's inhabitants.

2.         Zheng solo: “Lin Chong Flees at Midnight
            Performer: Katherine Li

Extracted directly from The Water Margins, one of the four great classics in Chinese literature, the story of this contemporary piece traces Lin Chong, the tragic hero’s escape to Liang Mountain at midnight. The music has its materials based on Night Escape, an act from the Kunqu opera, The Double-edged Sword. It describes Lin Chong’s sufferings from an evil official, his memories of the past, and his intention to join an uprising army at Liang Mountain. Imitating the raging snowstorm which he encounters during the escape, the interpretation of this piece combines exquisitely a variety of techniques and rich emotions.

3.          Erhu solo : “Méditation
Performers: Xin Zhang, Erhu; Francine Di, Piano

4.  Piano solo: “Colourful Clouds Chasing the Moon”   by Wang Jian Min
            Performers: Olivia Ling

In 1932, Ren Guang, director of programming at EMI Shanghai, partnered with Chinese musician Nie Er and wrote a number of Chinese orchestral pieces for an album, including this piece, which was composed in 1935. Peng Xiuwen re-orchestrated this music in 1960 according to the establishment of Chinese National Orchestra. The piece paints a picture of the night sky, which is not black but actually colorful.
